Home Energy Audit

Comprehensive Home Energy Audits & Assessments

Tired of paying too much in utility bills? How energy efficient is your home? An energy efficient home reduces your carbon footprint, is a more comfortable place to live and can save you significant amounts of money – a true win, win, win!

The first step toward an energy efficient home is a home energy audit or assessment from James A. Wheat & Sons. Using a variety of techniques and equipment, our professional energy auditors will show you exactly how much energy your home uses and pinpoint problematic areas that should be addressed and improved.

Our energy auditors are friendly and consultative – no high pressure sales tactics. After your energy audit, they will thoroughly explain the results so you can see where your home is losing energy. Based on your needs, we’ll make recommendations for areas of improvement including which changes will offer you the greatest return on investment and make your home more energy efficient.

James A. Wheat & Sons has been serving Montgomery County, Maryland (MD) and NW Washington, DC for over 20 years. Call or email us today to schedule a home energy audit.

Home Energy Auditing Equipment

Our home energy assessment team and professional home energy auditors use a variety of techniques and specialized equipment to ensure that you save the maximum amount of money.

Blower Doors

Blower doors are used to test your home’s air tightness. A blower door is a powerful fan that mounts into the frame of an exterior door. The fan pulls air out of the house lowering the air pressure inside which causes the higher pressure air outside to flow in through all your home’s unsealed cracks and openings. Additional tools such as a smoke pencil can then be used to detect even the smallest air infiltration and leaks throughout your home.

Having a home that is “tight” has additional benefits such as:

  • Moisture problem avoidance
  • Elimination of uncomfortable drafts and cold air leaking into your house
  • Improved air quality

Infrared Cameras

Thermography or infrared scanning is used to detect air leakage in homes and buildings. Infrared cameras can detect hard-to-find air infiltration and missing insulation by measuring surface temperatures and reviewing the recorded images. Thermographic scans can be either interior or exterior and can be used in conjunction with a blower door test.

By reviewing the heat spectrum of your house, your energy auditor will show you where areas of improvement exist and provide intelligent steps toward improving your home’s energy efficiency.
