How Do These Issues Affect Your AC?

Each of these common air conditioner problems will affect your system differently:

Refrigerant Leaks

There are two ways for your air conditioner to become low on refrigerant: improper charge at installation or leaking. If your AC’s refrigerant is leaking, this can be a very costly issue because it will lead to diminished system performance and increased cooling costs.

The Fix: Simply adding more refrigerant isn’t going to be enough if there’s a leak—you’ll need the assistance of a trained technician like the ones at James A. Wheat & Sons. We will locate the source of your leak and get it fixed right away.

Inadequate Maintenance

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: your air conditioner requires seasonal maintenance every year! Regular AC maintenance ensures that your system will run at peak efficiency and keep your home comfortable. Poor maintenance can also lead to other issues in your system, including compressor or fan failures.

The Fix: Schedule routine maintenance near the end of winter or beginning of spring every year with a qualified HVAC company. You should also change your filters once a month during the summer when your air conditioner is working the hardest.

Electrical Control Failure

There are a number of reasons why your AC might experience electrical control failure, including corroded wires and terminals and parts wearing out. These issues can cause your air conditioner to run incredibly inefficiently and even breakdown.

The Fix: Electrical components should always be checked out by a professional. We can help you determine the cause of your issue and recommend the next course of action, be it repairs or replacements of parts or the entire system.

Sensor Problems

The temperature set on the thermostat communicates the cooling needs of your home with your air conditioning system—but if the sensor gauging the temperature is having issues, it can affect how your system behaves. It can lead to constant cycling, decreased comfort, and poor efficiency.

The Fix: We can carefully adjust your sensor’s position and ensure that it is measuring the temperature properly.

Drainage Problems

If the condensate drain in your indoor unit is clogged, it can lead to back-ups, flooding, and improper functioning.

The Fix: It will need to be unclogged as soon as possible—if you can’t do this yourself, a professional from James A. Wheat & Sons is here to help!
